Pick Of The Week: Deadpool #20

Deadpool 20

It's Wednesday and that means ... NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! Like Christmas without the threat of home invasion from a fat man with an elf infestation.

This week seems kind of light on the reading material, but that could be because last week was not only The Walking Dead, but another amazing issue of Saga. Seriously that is the best title going right now. If you haven't gotten into Saga then you need to report yourself to the authorities for abuse.

Last week was awesome. Made for a great Thanksgiving because there is nothing better than eating until your belt pops and then sitting in a bean bag chair fighting a food coma as you delve into a stack of books.

Now don't get me wrong, there is still some great reads this week. My pick for issue of the week happens to be my favorite Marvel book: Deadpool. Posehn and Duggan keep hitting home run after home run with their rendition of the merc with a mouth. They just tied up the very cool "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" story that featured the best written Captain America in a decade.

This issue is their third flashback issue. If you just are now getting on the Deadpool wagon then these issues have become must owns. The first was a fake 1980's story about how Deadpool tricked a demon and pretended to be Iron Man. It might go down as Marvel's best book of the year. The next was a super flashback to the 1970's when Deadpool teamed up with the Heroes for Hire. That issue is worth owning just for the "romance" scene.

In this issue our favorite fourth wall breaker is again doing a flashback to when he took some r&r in Wakanda, land of the Black Panther. Again it is filled with more inside jokes, but it also sets the table for the next story arc in the series. Posehn and Duggan don't ever just waste an issue. While these flashback issues are full of fanboy fun, they also play a role in the series going forward. This one is no different.

It's not going to win any Eisners, but will fill that void in your funny bone for a good chuckle while you read. This week the best book on the shelves is Deadpool #20 from the best writing duo not working for Image, Brain Posehn and Gerry Duggan. Another fun ride on the DP train.

Get Your Claws On The Wolverine Today

Get what I did there ... claws ... I'm so funny.

It's Tuesday and that means new movie day. Don't miss out on The Wolverine with Hugh Jackman. This story follows Wolverine during his time in Japan where, like most heroes in a sequel, he struggles with wanting his powers or not. Also there is a cool Silver Samurai in it. A very underrated villain in my opinion.

Remember Superman 2 when Kal-El decided he wanted to be Clark Kent forever so he could hook up with Lois Lane. It's kind of like that but this hero has more hair and attitude. Plus he smokes and drinks. So yeah maybe not exactly the same thing.

Anyway, the DVD or Blu-Ray or OnDemand release is today for your enjoyment. It's not the strongest superhero movie out there, but it is better than the origins movie with that horrible rendition of Deadpool. I mean he was cool to begin the movie with his one liners and all, but then they just treated him like a red-headed step child.

Who green lit that idea? Probably the same guy who thought it would be cool to make that abomination of a Green Lantern movie. Wait a minute, I see a pattern here. Oh Ryan Reynolds why have you forsaken us. It's ok I still like two guys, a girl and a pizza place.

Here is the trailer for The Wolverine. It's worth a rental if you didn't shell out your life savings to go see it in the theater. I mean Redbox is like what a dollar. Yeah, it's worth a dollar.
